PATIENT PREPARATION FOR PROLACTIN TEST
1. No need to fast for this test (unless advised by your clinician).

Many factors can affect the thyroid profile tests (collection time, fasting, calorie intake, drugs, etc.) Therefore suggest to taking blood samples under the same conditions each time for the thyroid profile.
Preferred Sample Collection Time: Morning (Most preferably 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM)
Condition: Before taking any thyroxine medication, it is preferable to fast when collecting the sample.
Rationale: TSH levels exhibit significant diurnal variation, peaking between 11:00 PM and 5:00 AM and reaching a nadir
between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
TSH levels appear to be lower after food.
FT4 levels appear to be higher just after taking a thyroxine dose.

1. Collect Urine to the given collection bottle by lab with added preservatives supplied by the laboratory and DO NOT WASH OR DISCARD PRESERVATIVES IN THE BOTTLE.
2. Collect 24 hours of Urine samples according to the following instructions.
a. Discard the first-morning sample and note the time.
b. Collect all Urine passed from then onwards into the collecting bottle provided by the laboratory.
c. All Urine passed for 24 hours from the time of first collection should be sent to the laboratory as soon as possible (If there is a delay, the bottle should be refrigerated)
3. IMPORTANT: - The following will affect the investigations.
a.Drugs to be avoided 3 days prior to the test- Aminosalicylic Acid, Aspirin, Imipramine, MAO Inhibitors, Mephenesin, Methocarbamol, Nalidixic Acid, Norepinephrine, Oxytetracycline, Chlorpromazine, Clofibrate, Glyceryl Guaiacolate, PSP, Penicillin, Phenazopyridine, Reserpine, Sulfa Drugs, Epinephrine, Insulin, Morphine
4. The patient should abstain from consuming Bananas, Vanilla, Chocolate, Coffee, and Tea 3 Days prior to collection of Urine.
